Without children or nearby family, the Holliday’s always knew they would need a thoughtful plan, one that would allow them to remain in the home they loved for as long as possible. So more than 30 years ago, the two built their home with a clear vision for the future. Long before aging in place became a common idea, they designed the house with wider hallways, a one-floor layout and features like a zero-entry shower.

"The day we signed the papers, we just came home and went, ‘ahh…’ The burden had been lifted. We didn’t have to worry about the future, you know, we’ve had that covered now."

With a background in nursing and public health, Karen Lane has always viewed aging through the lens of prevention. That perspective drew her to Friendship at Home, which aligned with her belief that staying well means planning ahead, reducing risks and creating the right support system early. For Karen, it simply made sense to apply the same principles she had advocated in her career to long-term care planning.

"Friendship at Home supports what I’ve always believed—that the key to aging well is preventing problems before they happen, so you can stay independent and live life on your terms."

For Jim Bishop, Friendship at Home became much more than a long-term care plan for his mother Louise. Louise joined the program more than a decade ago after learning about it through friends. Independent by nature, she was determined to remain in her own home for as long as possible. She treasured her garden, her routines, and the freedom to live life on her own terms. Friendship at Home helped make that possible, providing support that gradually evolved alongside her needs.

"The greatest gift my mom has ever given me is Friendship at Home… I realized that I had an advocate too, that it wasn’t just me who had to be the advocate 24/7. It’s impossible to convey the emotion of not having to deal with that alone."

Christopher Scott and his wife Susie purchased a long-term care insurance policy several years ago, hoping it would provide security for the future. Over time, however, they became dissatisfied with it. The premiums were high, the policy had a six-month waiting period before benefits would begin, and the coverage included strict limits that made them question whether it would be sufficient in the long run. When they later attended a presentation about Friendship at Home, they immediately noticed a different approach. They learned it offered more flexible, comprehensive care when needed, without lifetime caps or long waiting periods.

After joining, Christopher and Susie kept their insurance for a short time out of caution, but eventually decided to let it go. They felt confident they had found a better, more reliable solution for their long-term care needs.

"The biggest thing is the assurance of it all. You know the care will be there when you need it—but you have to join before that moment comes.”
